Andrew Leigh, the member for Fraser, graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Law and Arts, and obtained a PhD in public policy from Harvard University. He worked as an associate to former High Court Justice Michael Kirby, and was a principal adviser to the Australian Treasury for a time. He has written three books and had his own column in the Financial Review. Before being elected he was a professor of Economics at the Australian National University in Canberra.
Gai Brodtman, the member for Canberra, has a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University, a Bachelor of Public Relations from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Graduate Certificate in Business from Monash University in Melbourne. She worked for some years in the Foreign Affairs and Trade and Attorney-General’s Departments, including a posting to India. For the last ten years she had been running her own public relations firm. She was also a tutor at the University of Canberra. Oh, and she is married to ABC political editor Chris Uhlmann.
In other words, they are hopelessly overqualified.
