Doctor Karl (http://www.abc.net.au/science/drkarl/) is a well known science commentator on radio here, who has a number of books out on popular science. He is probably best known for his ground-breaking research into belly button lint, for which he received an Ig Nobel Prize.
His talk - part of Science week - was a rambling discourse even by my standards, covering his trips to Spain and the Antarctic, the crash of a B-52 bomber, and myths concerning dolphins and carrots. The crowd enjoyed the whole talk immensely.
