Make Love Not War

Movie Review: Stop Loss

This is an intriguing but simple movie about a group of vets returning from the war in Iraq to their home town in Texas. The unusual title comes from the US Army's term for the practice of involuntarily extending the term of service of personnel whose enlistment expires.

For those of my generation, who are now living through their third war, everything is depressingly familiar.

Indeed, like the war itself, the movie starts with a lot of action and then trails off with no end in sight. It stars Australian Abbie Cornish (Somersault) who is shaping up to be a pretty good actress.

I hear that it bombed at the box office, but is really very good.
